Joana Magalhães is a Senior Researcher, at Science for Change, being responsible for the NEWSERA and COALESCE projects, on the interface of science communication and citizen science and co-creation. She holds a European PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, obtained as a Marie Curie Fellow. During the last decade she held different Postdoctoral positions in the field of tissue engineering and osteoarthritis, whilst developing PPI and STEAM4health communication strategies from a gender perspective (1st Ex Aequo Award. Science Communication. Television. Science on Stage 2017; Honorable Mention Women in Science. SCI-DOC EU Science TV and New Media Festival 2018; Finalist MEDEA Awards 2017). She is a Board Member of the Spanish Association of Women in Science and Technology at the Galician Node (AMIT), the Galician Association of Science Communication and is an Academic at the Galician Academy for the Portuguese Language (AGLP).
