Sarven has been actively involved in the development of open web standards since 2006. They chair the W3C Solid Community Group and serve as the lead editor/author of the Solid Protocol and other Solid Technical Reports. They have a background in decentralising academic publishing and scientific communication (via the Linked Research initiative), and have been involved in the Solid project since 2015 alongside the Decentralized Information Group at MIT. Sarven is hands-on, building the tools they want to use, and is the maintainer of dokieli, an open source semantic authoring and publishing client that works with personal datastores. They are committed to an ethical and community-driven approach to web technologies, and work toward spreading awareness and fostering understanding of the impact of decentralisation and personal data stewardship within diverse communities.
