Dr Velislava (Veli) Hillman is a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics where she researches on AI in education, digital technologies, governance, and children’s rights. She is the founder of Education Data Digital Safeguards (EDDS) and partner at Etoile Partners where she engages directly with education technology companies to build trust, transparency, and accountability around pedagogic evidence and companies’ data responsibilities and ethical practices. EDDS is a social enterprise comprising academic researchers, social scientists, educators, parents, technology, and policy experts, who work with edtech companies to provide assessment, analysis, and evaluation of their products and services across ten key criteria to ensure schools’ and students’ safety, data privacy, and best interests for education are protected. Dr Hillman is alumna at Berkman Klein Centre for Internet and Society at Harvard University. She is a trustee at a public high-school in the UK, and a mom to three young children.
