Title: Generating Responsibility – navigating the challenges and opportunities for responsible innovation posed by generative AI
Speaker: Andrew Strait, Ada Lovelace Foundation
1. The rise of generative AI technologies has created massive challenges for teams tasked with innovating responsibly. Arms-race dynamics, mass layoffs, and a lack of strong regulatory requirements have undermined the efforts of responsible AI practitioners in the tech sector to identify and mitigate the risks of these technologies before they are released.
2. Generative AI highlights the need for effective safety practices that centre the people impacted by these technologies. There are many human-centric responsible AI practices that can help ensure these systems meet the needs of different communities impacted by them.
3. Addressing these challenges will require strong regulation to reset incentive structures and standardisation of responsible AI practices. Standardising various forms of transparency and accountability practices can help ensure their widespread use.
